Jake grew up playing on the water and in the mountains of Northwest Washington. His love and respect for the outdoors started young and drove his choices in education, professional work, and recreation. He attended Southern Oregon University for two years and graduated from Western Washington University with a BA degree in Outdoor Recreation and a long list of other trainings in outdoor leadership. He worked as an Outdoor Excursion Coordinator and trip leader at Western Washington University, completed a NOLS Alaska Mountaineering course, taught skiing at Mount Baker and Mount Ashland, authored an article about his groups winter journey up the Twin Sisters in the North Cascades, and loved every opportunity to introduce others to backcountry travel. Jake was proud to have been mentored by Larry Goldie at North Cascade Mountain Guides during his senior internship and John Minier at Mount Baker Mountain Guides.

Jake loved his life, his family, the amazing friends that made Bellingham his home, his girlfriend Katie and their dog Cedar, and his wide-ranging outdoor family. He will forever be remembered for his playful spirit, infectious laughter, outrageous hugs, and unwavering belief in the power of the outdoors. Jake packed more into life than most people twice his age. His zest for life attracted others, created relationships, and generated seemingly endless adventures. Jake loved most any outdoor adventure that challenged him, allowed his spirit to soar, and inspired others into nature. He felt at peace in the mountains. He will be missed more than words can say.
