Whether you are an aspiring guide, a climbing instructor, a client, or simply someone who loves being a part of and contributing to the success of America’s dynamic mountain community, Associate Membership opens the door to a plethora of educational and networking opportunities. It also allows aspiring guides to take those next crucial steps toward becoming full-fledged guides. Start with Associate Membership, and then advance through the ranks to become an Individual Member by earning certifications, taking courses, and mentoring with senior guides!

  1. Annual Dues: $50 Student (you must provide an ID from your college or university)
  2. Annual Dues: $75 non-student
  3. Benefits:
    • Bi-annual AMGA’s new publication, Guide Bulletin
    • Monthly AMGA E-newsletter and E-news updates on important issues in guiding as they arise
    • Discounts on AMGA merchandise
    • Invitation to attend the AMGA Annual Conference and professional development clinics
    • Eligibility to apply for AMGA climbing instructor level courses (CWI and SPI) and introductory level guide courses (RIC, AGC, and SGC)
    • Receive special promotions from corporate partners
    • Be included in a network of outdoor professionals and guides
    • Take advantage of the AMGA’s extensive advertising, which directs potential clients to the place on the AMGA website where they can review and hire a guide.

Individual MemberMemberLevels2

If you are pursuing advanced level guide education and training, Individual Membership will bring you into the AMGA’s inner circle. Be a decision-maker; we value your input and invite you to vote on or run for the Board of Directors.

  1. Eligibility:
    • You must have completed an AMGA introductory level program.
    • You must be applying for or have completed an advanced level program.
  2. Annual Dues: $125
  3. Benefits are the same as with the Associate Membership, plus:
    • Eligible to vote in the annual Board of Directors election
    • Eligible to run for AMGA Board of Directors
    • Discounts on AMGA merchandise
    • Pro-Purchase
    • Eligibility to apply for AMGA advanced level guide courses and exams (RGC, RIE, RGE, AAGC, AGE, SMGC, SMGE)

Certified GuideMemberLevels3

Congratulations, you have successfully passed your certification exam and have earned the respected title of Certified Rock Guide, Rock Instructor, Alpine Guide, and/or Ski Mountaineering Guide. For those whose sites are set on becoming a fully-certified Mountain Guide,  you’re one step closer to earning your IFMGA pin. With this membership, take advantage of advanced level classes and get valuable discounts on the equipment and clothing that you need from big-name outdoor industry companies that partner with the AMGA. You are eligible for this membership if you have passed at least one of these exams: AMGA Rock Instructor, Rock Guide, Ski Mountaineering Guide, or Alpine Guide.

  1. Annual Dues: $125
  2. Benefits are the same as with the Individual Membership, plus:
    • Premier Pro-Purchase
    • Benefit from advocacy work done on behalf of the AMGA
    • Eligibility to apply for an AMGA Logo Use Agreement to use the AMGA logo to promote yourself in advertising and marketing

IFMGA GuideMemberLevels4

IFMGA guides hold the most prestigious positions in our industry—you are world travelers, owners of our greatest guide services, and mentors to aspiring guides and clients. You represent the best of the best, and the AMGA wouldn’t be where it is without your valuable input. Be a part of our evolving community by letting us know how we can better serve you, and take advantage of the promotional and networking opportunities we offer. You are eligible for this membership if you have passed the Rock Guide exam, Ski Mountaineering Guide exam, and Alpine Guide exam.

  1. Annual Dues:
    • IFMGA via AMGA: $250
    • IFMGA Reciprocal: $150
  2. Benefits are the same as with the Individual Membership, plus:
    • Ability to work overseas where IFMGA credentials are required
    • Preeminent Pro-Purchase
    • Benefit from advocacy work done on behalf of the AMGA
    • Eligibility to apply for an AMGA Logo Use Agreement to use the AMGA logo to promote yourself in advertising and marketing

Accreditation MemberMemberLevels5

Increase the value and prestige of your company through Accreditation. We only accredit guiding companies, schools, and programs that meet or exceed the high operational standards required during an extensive safety and business review. We advocate for your organization, and we ensure prospective clients and guides know about your unquestionable excellence. Become accredited today!

  1. Accreditation Review Fee (Every four years): Fees are based on the size of the company
  2. Annual Dues: $250 Accredited Business; $50 Sole Proprietorship
  3. Benefits:
    • Demonstrate to the general public and land managers that your program meets or exceeds industry standards.
    • Improve your program with a thorough and valuable review of your business practices and risk management plan.
    • Provide your full-time guides with a 5% discount on AMGA Guide Program courses and exams.
    • Use the AMGA logo in marketing and promotional materials.
    • Gain greater exposure for your organization by being listed on the AMGA and industry affiliates websites.
    • Post jobs at no charge on the AMGA’s E-Newsletter or Facebook page.
    • Gain access to public lands where AMGA Accreditation or Certification is required to obtain a commercial use permit.
