AMGA CWI Provider Pool Prerequisites

Experienced climbers must complete the following:

  • Submit résumé showing a minimum of 200 hours of work experience as an indoor climbing instructor, showing expertise in indoor climbing settings to the AMGA Climbing Instructor Program Director.
  • Pass the Climbing Wall Instructor Course with lead certification
  • Take the Climbing Wall Instructor Provider course
  • Observe or Co-Teach a Climbing Wall Instructor course
  • Must be a current member of the AMGA
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older

AMGA Certified Climbing Wall Instructors must complete the following:

  • Must receive a written recommendation from their Climbing Wall Instructor course provider to enter into the provider pool training.
  • Take the Climbing Wall Instructor Provider Course
  • Observe / Co-Teach a Climbing Wall Instructor Course
  • Must be a current member of the AMGA
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older

AMGA Certified TRSM/SPI without quantifiable indoor experience must complete the following:

  • Pass the Climbing Wall Instructor Course with lead certification
  • Take the Climbing Wall Instructor Provider course
  • Observe / Co-Teach a Climbing Wall Instructor Course
  • Must be a current member of the AMGA
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older

AMGA Certified TRSM/SPI with *quantifiable indoor experience must complete the following:

  • Take the Climbing Wall Instructor Provider Course
  • Observe / Co-Teach a Climbing Wall Instructor Course
  • Must be a current member of the AMGA
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older

AMGA SPI Provider must complete the following:

  • Take the Climbing Wall Instructor Provider Course
  • Observe / Co-Teach a Climbing Wall Instructor Course unless otherwise specified by discipline coordinator
  • Must be a current member of the AMGA
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older

AMGA Certified Rock Instructor and higher without quantifiable indoor experience must complete the following:

  • Pass the Climbing Wall Instructor Course with lead certification
  • Take the Climbing Wall Instructor Provider Course
  • Observe / Co-Teach a Climbing Wall Instructor Course
  • Must be a current member of the AMGA
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older

AMGA Certified Rock Instructor and higher with *quantifiable indoor experience must complete the following:

  • Take the Climbing Wall Instructor Provider Course
  • Observe / Co-Teach a Climbing Wall Instructor Course
  • Must be a current member of the AMGA
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older

AMGA Instructor Pool Member must complete the following:

  • Instructor Pool Members may petition the Climbing Instructor Program Director for immediate entry into the pool, their entry will be reviewed and approved by the CIP Director on a case by case basis:
    1. Otherwise take the Climbing Wall Instructor Provider Course
    2. Observe / Co-teach a Climbing Wall Instructor Course
