Brief Bio
A few years ago, I was what my company called an "Expert Outfitter" - somebody who helped clients in our retail store plan for trips or activities, and outfitted them with the necessary gear. The company had a strong philosophy of providing honest service to our patrons and making sure that everybody had the best possible time in the outdoors. After working there, I worked as a paid sailor out of Newport, Rhode Island, where I helped to run an 80-foot, traditionally-rigged sailing schooner. During that job, I pushed myself to provide the best possible time to our customers while keeping everybody safe aboard the vessel. After one season, I was invited back to train the new crew and work for another season.
I am now a Program Manager with an international development firm in Washington, DC. Over the last few years, I've coordinated several projects mostly targeting poverty and communicable diseases (Ebola) in West Africa. I love my work, but I have been pulled more and more toward what I really love to do, which is to bring friends and acquaintances to the crags around our area to teach them to climb, set up camp, or talk their ears off about which piece of gear best suits what purpose...
I have always looked up to the guiding community for its programming, transparent philosophy around issues both business related and surrounding the environment, and leadership in the outdoor sector. I'd love to offer my skills as a guide. I have a very solid foundation in project management, logistics, writing formal and informal copy, and work planning, and I have several years of experience leading small climbing groups and sailing outings.
