Brief Bio
I began formally climbing at an early when my father enrolled a rambunctious, hyper 12 year old in Exum's climbing school. Hooked at an early age, I continued climbing in southern California, bouldering when the surf was bad, and eventually moving to Jackson Wyoming to continue to pursue climbing.
I begin technical climbing in 2001 on my own, developing my craft on my own by building anchors following John Long books and using my living room furniture as anchors, or rappelling into cliffs with friends to better understand gear and anchor systems.
Moving from Wyoming to Arizona in 2007 to follow another passion of mine, sustainability, I was introduced to Matt Walker, an AMGA guide and owner of Inner Passage, who quickly became my climbing partner and boss as my first climbing guide job began. I took my first AMGA course in 2010 with a AMGA Single Pitch Instructor course.
I began guiding rock camps in Cochise Stronghold and Joshua Tree National Park, both amazing areas to begin a guiding career. But my love of the Tetons kept calling me back.
In 2010 my family moved back to the Jackson, and in 2012 with the help of fellow guide and friend Zahan Billimoria, I began guiding for Exum Mountain Guides.
I continue to guide for Exum Mountain Guides both summer and winter and strive to improve the craft of being a mountain guide.
I look forward to meeting you someday.
Sincerely,
Ian
