    Brief Bio
Bryce Barnes Over the last eight years I’ve spent fall and winters making snow for a ski resort on the east coast. It didn’t take long before I was training and leading crews around the mountain on the night shift, giving tips on how to walk through snow all the way to basic avalanche awareness. This was the start of my professional outdoor careers and partly what pushed my love for snow. Over the last six years I have drifted away from resort and inbounds snowboarding and nearly exclusively ride in the backcountry. This change has led me to a new love and that is showing people the backcountry. The last two years I’ve served as Secretary of the board of Directors for a non-profit called Inclusive Ski Touring, & our mission is to get people of underrepresented groups out into the backcountry by means of splitboarding or ski touring, while providing a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space to do it in. One of my biggest goals is to increase Black representation in the ski community by building our own. I’ve had some good success and am striving for more at every chance. Along with moving to Alaska to take a canoe and glacier guiding job, this summer I was drafted into the SCARPA Athlete Mentorship Initiative and am even more lucky to have Mike Russell and Aidan Goldie as my mentors to help me in my pursuit of getting my snow science certifications as well as AMGA certifications so I can become one of the first Black AMGA certified Mountaineer guides. I’ll be working with the National Brotherhood of Skiers this February to teach an Avalanche Awareness course alongside Phillip Henderson. And in March me and 15 other Black people are traveling to the Atlas Mountains in Morocco to ski in Africa! In the future I hope to be able to start a group to take Black and Brown folks of all abilities out into the mountains for camping or skiing trips.
