Brief Bio
Kent McBride has made his career as a skiing and climbing guide in some of the most respected ranges around the globe. A fully certified rock, alpine, and ski guide, McBride has earned full international IFMGA certification, enabling him to guide in any country that has mountains—a life list that he is climbing and skiing his way toward completing. On the snow side, he has spent the last 21 seasons as a guide in some of Alaska’s most legendary heli-ski zones, such as Valdez, Haines, Girdwood, and the Tordrillos, for outfits such as Chugach Powder Guides, SEABA Heli, TML (Tordrillos), Valdez Heli Ski Guides. At his home base of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, he ski guides for the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in their legendary sidecountry terrain, as well as for Exum, Jackson Hole Mountain Guides and Teton Backcountry Guides. He has logged more than 2,500 heli-ski runs in eight countries. In 2005 McBride climbed the central summit of Shishapangma (26,289 ft.) in Tibet without bottled oxygen and then made the first ski descent of its Untsch Couloir. One of his boldest lines was skiing a first and-so-far-only descent of the CMC Couloir on Mt. Moran with skiing legend and guiding mentor, the late Doug Coombs. He’s also an accomplished rock climber, having scaled El Capitan eight times. As a climbing guide, McBride’s resume is just as impressive. He began working on Tetonic ascents with Exum Mountain Guides and has guided big-wall routes in global climbing meccas from BC’s Bugaboos to the El Chaltén region of Patagonia. The complete list of countries where he has climbed or skied during the past 25 years is extensive, including France, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Canada, Mexico, China, Tibet, Nepal, Sweden, Norway, Morocco, New Zealand, and, although technically not a country, Antarctica. He will make almost any foreign trip happen through his Mountain Sense guiding company. Even though he will be the last one to claim it, he also absolutely slays backcountry lines on his snowboard.
