    Brief Bio
Felipe Proaño is one of Ecuador’s most motivated climbers. He began to climb the mountains of Ecuador in 2003 and gradually became involved in rock climbing. Over time his skills grew fast but unfortunately he suffered an accident on peak Iliniza Norte trying to open a new route when he was 16 years old. A broken ankle in 14 pieces and 8 pins were the result, which left him out of the mountains and the rock for almost 3 years. When he was 19 years old he returned from studying abroad and got back to rock climbing. Gradually, over time, new places in Ecuador became his training grounds until he went for his first Big Wall, La Esfinge in Perú in 2011. His objectives continued to Yosemite Valley, and dozens of other sites. Felipe has been a participant in the development of climbing routes in Ecuador, the development of new areas such as the Columns of Tangán and the Towers of Simiatug, and the contribution to the growth and evolution of the sport. On his list of goals to accomplish are the Trango Towers in Pakistan, the Big Walls of Baffin Island, some of the legendary peaks of the Cordillera Blanca in Peru, and his biggest hidden project in Ecuador. He is currently President of the Andean Access Foundation, host of the Reel Rock Tour in Ecuador, and in the process of becoming an IFMGA guide. Felipe is a The North Face athlete since 2013 and the author of the first and second book Rutas de Escalada en Ecuador. He is credited with dozens of first ascents in Ecuador, repetitions in Colorado, Alaska, Arizona, and more than 20 successful Big Wall ascents.
