Red Rock Access Secured

Guiding Access Secured in Red Rocks

In the fall of 2020, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) at Red Rock National Conservation Area released a proposal that would significantly limit guiding access while an environmental analysis of climbing resources is completed. The proposal also sought to charge guide services for the cost of the environmental analysis. The AMGA and permitted guide services worked with the BLM to review past environmental analyses, compare them against current use levels and patterns, and determine that the previously completed environmental analyses are still adequate for the authorization of guided climbing. As a result, guided climbing will be allowed to continue while the new environmental analysis is being completed and no fees will be charged to guide services. This is a significant positive outcome for the preservation of guided climbing access at one of North America’s most regarded rock climbing destinations.
