Brief Bio
I grew up climbing trees, play structures, and anything that I could get to the top of. It wasn’t until my twenties that I started rock climbing. I was in Henry Cowell State Park at a swimming hole and I started climbing the rock face that came out of the water. Half-way up and looking down, I thought about my mortality and where I could climb rocks in a safer way. I didn’t know anyone who climbed, but I found a local gym that where I tried it out. I was as hooked as my budget would allow. I climbed indoors for years before I stepped foot outdoors. I didn’t have any friends who climbed, and climbing outdoors seemed so out of reach. I also had to gain confidence in the protection, so I mainly bouldered. My community of climbers became the coworkers that also climbed, or who I managed to get to come with me. This is where I first started teaching people how to climb. I invited many friends who would join me, and I would instruct them on the basics of rock climbing. I’ve always wanted to see my community of climbers grow and to increase access to those who are interested but can’t afford the costs to enter and sustain the practice. I work to climb as high as possible with the hopes of inspiring the people in my community to get up the mountain too.
