Mt. Rainier NPS | Hiring Short-Term Mountaineering Appointment

Mt. Rainier NPS is hiring a full-time, 40hr/week, (not-to-exceed) 60-day appointment for work as a climbing ranger on Mt. Rainier. Depending on the experience level, the pay rate will either be GS-5 (approx. $16.50/hr) or GS-7 (approx. $21.50/hr) – based on the level of experience of the individual. Mt. Rainier NPS would like to fill the appointment from approximately June 15 – August 15.

Duties include staffing high camps Muir and Schurman, climbing patrols of the Disappointment Cleaver and Emmons-Winthrop routes, non-standard climbing patrols of various more difficult routes, staffing of the climbing information center at Paradise, issuing climbing permits, public contacts for the purposes of preventative search and rescue, team member on search and rescue missions, and resource protection measures in the alpine areas of Mt. Rainier.

Seeking an AMGA member who has substantial training and experience in the Alpine and Ski environment.
