Sequoia-Kings Canyon Announces Improved CUA Program

After extensive dialogue with local guides and the AMGA, Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park (SEKI) has made numerous improvements to their commercial use authorization (CUA) program. The total number of available CUAs has been increased, all CUAs provide access to the Mount Whitney Management Area, multiple tiers of allocations are available to accommodate different levels of interest, and guided traditional rock climbing is now allowed. SEKI is currently accepting applications for 2-year CUAs for 2020-2021. More information can be found on the SEKI website. Applications are due by September 30, 2019. While the changes are a step in the right direction, more work needs to be done. The AMGA and local guides will continue to advocate for further improvements such as increasing the number of winter service days and revising management area boundaries.
